Researchers at the Russian Academy of Sciences are working on an extremely small internal combustion generator to power electric devices, laptops and medical chips. The current common battery, its energy density compared to less than one-tenth of the common fuel, to develop a micro-generator to provide electricity is a solution to improve energy density.
In recent years, scientists from all over the world are actively looking for alternative technologies for lead-zinc and lithium-ion batteries. As a promising solution, fuel cells are widely studied. However, the efficiency of generating electricity by oxidizing fuel is still lower than that of currently common Internal combustion engine. Russian chemists accidentally discovered in experiments that the passage of current into the water and the continuous change of the direction of the electrodes can lead to the generation of tiny bubbles containing hydrogen and oxygen mixed gas. The frequency of the electrode transformation and the change of the distance between the electrodes cause these bubbles The combustion and the production of water molecules, the process can not be observed with the naked eye, because the bubbles are extremely small. For this phenomenon, the Russian research team tried to use this "nano-blasting" to collect the pressure generated by blasting, making it drive the internal combustion engine cylinder to generate electricity. To this end, the researchers designed a special experimental device for tracking the generation and deflagration of a single micro-bubble, and tried to measure the pressure generated by deflagration.
There are two phenomena that occur with any type of fuel combustion: heat and pressure, and only pressure is needed for the internal combustion engine. Russian scientists measured about 0.3 micro-joule of energy from a single microbubble deflagration to pressure, and the research team is currently working on how to collect that energy and turn it into electricity with a tiny internal combustion engine.
