3D printing is an emerging technology that is rapidly evolving in manufacturing and is called "manufacturing technology of industrial revolution significance." Recently, scientists from Hangzhou University of Electronic Science and Technology and other universities independently developed a bio-material 3D printer.
Scientists from Hangzhou University of Electronic Science and Technology and other universities independently developed a biomaterial 3D printer. Scientists using biomedical polymers, inorganic materials, hydrogel materials or living cells have now successfully printed smaller proportions of human ear cartilage tissue, liver cells, etc. on this printer.
The biomaterial 3D printer R & D team leader, Hangzhou University of Electronic Science and Technology Xu Ming-En said that this biomaterials 3D printer has many kinds of printing biomaterials, low damage to cells, high printing accuracy and easy operation. Compared with international similar printers, this 3D printer called "Regenovo" not only realizes the aseptic condition of biological materials and cell 3D printing, but also the new temperature control unit and print head design can support from -5 ℃ to 260 ℃ melting of a variety of biological materials printed.
Xu Ming-en said, "Regenovo" to support living cell printing, printing cells have a survival rate of up to 90%. The current live cell survival time of up to 4 months.
However, there is still a long way to go before human cells, tissues, and organs are "printed" out of their reach into clinical applications. Xu Ming-en said that this requires scientists in many fields to work together.
