According to foreign media reports, Intel recently announced that it has completed the acquisition of Israeli autopilot technology company Mobileye. Intel announced in March that it will acquire all of Mobileye's outstanding shares in cash at $63.54 per share, with a transaction size of approximately $15.3 billion.
Mobileye is a well-known Israeli Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) manufacturer that provides algorithms and computer chips that can predict potential collisions based on images (taken by cameras on the car). Currently, Mobileye's research and development focuses on fully automated driving systems.
Intel expects autopilots to generate 4000 GB per day by 2020, and the global vehicle systems, data and services market will reach $70 billion by 2030.
Mobileye will merge with Intel's Automated Driving Division (ADG) to form a new autonomous driving division. The department's headquarters will be located in Israel, led by Mobileye co-founder, chairman and chief technology officer Amnon Shashua.
At the same time, another co-founder, CEO and president of Mobileye, Ziv Aviram, has decided to retire immediately.
It is understood that Intel and Mobileye are working with BMW to test about 40 driverless cars on public roads in the second half of this year. BMW announced cooperation with the two companies in July last year. The three companies set a goal of introducing fully self-driving cars to the market in 2021.
Mobileye used to be a provider of Tesla's Autopilot semi-automatic driving system, but the company announced in July last year that it would end its cooperation with Tesla because it believes that Tesla "has boasted" Autopilot's function, leading to fatal traffic accidents. .
Mobileye is currently a supplier of collision prediction systems for 27 car manufacturers. The company's driver assistance systems and car collision avoidance systems currently account for 70% of the global market.
