Due to inadvertent employee operations, liquid ammonia leaked from a chemical plant in Baishi Industrial Zone, Sanxiang Town, Zhongshan City. On the morning of the 13th, the fire squadrons of the three townships in Zhongshan City rushed to the scene for emergency treatment. Three water trucks were dispatched and more than 50 people were evacuated. No poisoning and casualties occurred at the scene.

In the incident factory, the air was filled with extremely high irritating odors. A yellow tank was constantly pouring out large quantities of white smoke (liquid ammonia) and issued a "bang" sound.

The factory site staff explained that 400 cubic meters of liquid ammonia coexist in the leaked tank. If the valve is not closed in time, all the leaked ammonia gas may endanger the lives of the surrounding residents. After learning of this situation, the firefighters immediately dispatched two flower-type water guns based on the characteristics that ammonia is soluble in water. The diffused spray was used to dilute the leaked ammonia gas, let it melt in water and pass through. Underground waterways are excluded. After the concentration of ammonia in the air is reduced, the firefighters will wear an air respirator together with professional technicians of the factory to enter the warehouse and close the valve. The rest are responsible for water supply for fire trucks and evacuation of people and other warning work. It is reported that the incident handled a total of 20 tons of water, evacuating more than 50 people.

At 1:40 in the morning, after an emergency treatment of the fire brigade for nearly one and a half hours, the dangerous situation on the scene was relieved. No poisoning and casualties were caused during the accident.

It is understood that ammonia gas has a slightly toxic and irritating odor. When ammonia overflows, it will endanger the health and life of humans and animals. It is corrosive. After a long period of inhalation of large amounts of ammonia, tears, sore throat, hoarseness, cough, and phlegm can occur. Bloodshots, chest tightness, and difficulty in breathing may be accompanied by dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and other symptoms. In severe cases, pulmonary edema, adult respiratory distress syndrome may occur, and respiratory tract irritation may occur. If too much ammonia is inhaled, leading to high concentrations of ammonia in the blood, it will cause cardiac arrest and respiratory arrest through the reflex action of the trigeminal nerve endings and endanger life.
