There are two main sources of mine water: natural factors and human factors. Natural factors include rainfall and snowmelt, surface water bodies (rivers, lakes, reservoirs, ponds, etc.), geological conditions (underground aquifers, rock pores, cracks, fault fracture zones connected with surface water or groundwater, karst caves, etc.). The human factors include abandoned roadway or water in the goaf, uncontained or closed exploration holes, which are connected with the aquifer or water source, and the collapse of the underground goaf causes the water in the surface pit to communicate with the groundwater.
These mine waters increase the atmospheric humidity in the underground, which is unfavorable to the health of workers. Water can also accelerate the oxidation of sulfide ore, resulting in underground fires; water can also reduce the stability of ore and surrounding rock, making maintenance difficult; acidic water will corrosion of various metal equipment, pipeline, rail and bracket. Therefore, in order to ensure the safety of the underground personnel and the smooth progress of production, measures must be taken to prevent water from entering the mine or discharging water entering the mine to the surface.
