Recently, the domestic professional market research institution Ximei Information released the latest “China Melamine Market Research and Forecast Reportâ€. The report mainly analyzes the domestic melamine production status and government policy's impact on China's melamine production in 2010. Export situation, melamine price and its main influencing factors, consumer market situation, production technology, introduction of important melamine producers, and prediction of melamine industry from 2011 to 2015.
The report pointed out that in recent years, China's melamine production has maintained a strong growth momentum due to the great demand in the domestic downstream industry and the international market. As of January 2011, there are 42 major melamine producers in China, with a total capacity of 1.2 million tons. In 2010, the output was about 650 thousand tons.
Most domestic large-scale melamine producers produce urea and melamine at the same time. Now melamine production is mainly distributed in Shandong, Sichuan, Henan, Shanxi and Hebei, because these places have abundant coal and natural gas resources. From 2008 to 2009, due to the global financial crisis, melamine production grew slowly. However, China's melamine production has been restored in 2010 under the strong policy support of the Chinese government and the stimulation of the global economic recovery.
The report statistics show that China is the world's largest supplier of melamine. Due to the lower price advantage, more than 20% of melamine production is exported every year. At the same time, the annual import of melamine declined sharply, from 22,130 tons in 2006 to 1,497 tons in 2010.
The report pointed out that melamine price fluctuations are greatly affected by raw materials, such as coal or natural gas. In late 2009, melamine prices rose rapidly under the support of rising raw material prices and reached a peak of 1,875/tonne in October 2010.
Studies have shown that in China, melamine is mainly used in the laminate industry, coatings, paper, textiles and leather, molding plastics and so on. The laminate industry is the largest consumer of melamine, accounting for 52.50% of total consumption in 2010, followed by coatings. In the coming years, the growth rate of these traditional industries will slow down, which will reduce the increase in demand for melamine. At present, melamine consumption is mainly distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang and Fujian. These provinces are the focus of most rubber laminates, coatings, papermaking, textiles and leather, and molding compound manufacturers.
Su Yanjun, an information researcher at Western America, said: At present, domestic melamine production capacity has been severely oversupplied, and overseas markets and domestic traditional downstream consumer sectors have had limited development. Therefore, it is necessary to open up some emerging consumer fields, such as melamine fiber and melamine foam.
