AnalogicTech today introduced a high-output charge pump IC for LED flash, called the AAT3172 chip, which provides a current output of 600mA for current sinking. Each LED channel can be set to 32 levels with a GPIO output through the AS2Cwire interface.
Erik Ogren, sales manager at AnalogicTech, said, "Mobile phone designers are adopting higher performance cameras in their next generation. This design requires a new, smaller power chip with higher power output to support it. The AAT3172 is capable of outputting 600mA and is equipped with a 32-stage digital sequence control interface, which allows designers to design the best LED flash for new flash applications."
The AAT3172 is a three-mode operation that combines a load switch (1x mode), partial current draw (1.5x mode) and dual current draw (2x mode) with built-in sensing circuitry to optimize product operation. . The 1x mode and 1.5x mode minimize the current drawn from the battery when the LED is running, such as flashlights and movie illumination, which are longer than the flash mode. Dual current sinking allows system designers to utilize single or dual flash LED structures.
The equipment's 32-level single-wire interface gives designers a flexible brightness control design freedom. This interface can be programmed to provide a calibration voltage for additional system load.
AnalogicTech added that the AAT3172 requires four external components: two 15F ceramic capacitors for the instantaneous capacitors of the charge pump, one 15F capacitor for C IN and one for C OUT. The equipment has a heat treatment system and built-in soft start circuit.
The AAT3172 is available in a lead-free, 12-pin, 3 x 3 mm TDFN package and is priced at $1.82 in 1,000-unit quantities.
