On July 13, it was learned from relevant departments of the Tianjin Binhai New Area that the largest production base for domestic 10,000-ton-grade polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) produced by Tianjin Binhai Development Zone National Yun Biotech Co., Ltd. had been successfully tested, and will soon be put into production. The project is one of the model projects for the industrialization of green technology in Tianjin Binhai New Area.
According to the person in charge of Guo Yunbi, the base will achieve annual sales of 200 million yuan after full production, and will reach 1 billion yuan before 2012. The company will become one of the leading companies in the domestic PHA field.
The raw materials required for PHA production are renewable products such as starch and glucose. Fermentation is performed using strains to produce PHA macromolecule degradable materials, which are then subjected to processes such as extraction and granulation to become masterbatches for producing degradable materials downstream products. According to the different needs of the market, it can produce disposable tableware, non-woven fabrics, packaging materials, agricultural film, toys, film, glue, fiber and other degradable products. Different from traditional plastics, the material can be decomposed into water and carbon dioxide by microorganisms in land, sewage, river water and seawater within 3 to 6 months. The degraded water and carbon dioxide can also be used for the production of crops.
