Nikos Japan developed a composite magnetic wire ultra-small magnetic sensor

Nikko, Japan (developed a 1.2 mm long ultra-small pulse-emitting electromagnetic sensor "Pulse Palm Sensor" using a composite magnetic wire. The company has introduced the same type of sensor products with a composite magnetic wire length of 12 mm or more. The sensor developed this time is a miniaturized product that has been greatly reduced on the basis of this. The reduction is so large that the length of the composite magnetic wire is shortened to 1.2 mm. The output voltage of the sensor is 20 mV or more. The output pulse duration is approximately 20 μs. It is expected to be the same size as the 1.6 x 0.8 mm chip component when it is put into production.

This sensor generates a voltage pulse based on changes in the external magnetic field, taking advantage of the large Barkhausen effect of the composite magnetic wire. The large Barkhausen effect refers to a phenomenon in which the polarity of internal magnetic domains (small magnet units) is suddenly reversed when the magnetic body is magnetized. In a general magnetic body, this phenomenon is not obvious. In order to produce a large Barkhausen effect, the composite magnetic wire is produced by processing an iron-cobalt-vanadium alloy into a filament having a diameter of 0.3 mm or less while controlling the distribution of the magnetic properties inside the wire. Since the magnetic domain which is sharply reversed inside the composite magnetic wire is converted into a pulsed voltage output in the coil located on the outer circumference of the wire, the sensor does not need to be driven by the power source.
