Affected by the leakage of gas, employees and people in neighboring enterprises had symptomatic reactions, and more than 100 people were sent to the hospital in time for treatment. After the incident, Ding Dawei, secretary of the Nantong Municipal Committee, and Zhang Guohua, acting mayor of the Nantong Municipal Committee immediately issued instructions to the Development Zone Management Committee and the public security, safety supervision, environmental protection, and sanitation departments to take effective measures to rescue the injured and spare no effort to find out the cause of the accident as soon as possible. According to the local official's briefing, the accident was caused by the failure of the compressor in the Jiangshan Agrochemical Chlor-alkali Branch Plant. The automatic system of the device system caused an urgent chain shutdown and caused a small amount of chlorine to leak. Of the 26 people who were sent to the hospital that night, there were actually 26 symptoms of discomfort. The hospital had observed stable vital signs. At about 9:30 that evening, emergency tests at the Nantong City Environmental Monitoring Center showed that there was no chlorine in the air in the accident area.
